Elitism and Prejudice on Dubai's roads
In our daily interactions with people, most of us try and exhibit some form of political correctness. Why do things change once we get behind the steering wheel? Elitism, prejudice, you name it, I've observed the following behavioural patterns for the following profiles...seat belts on!
1)Don't expect to be given way if:
You drive an Echo/Sunny/Daihatsu/Yaris/pick-up
You're not cute
You don't look like you're genuinely in a hurry
You look arrogant
You're pushing into a queue
2)Expect to be overtaken if:
You drive a car cheaper than the car behind you
You're driving at the speed of a mouse
You're old
You're talking on the mobile
You're keeping a huge distance from the car in front
You keep braking at radars when you're already 20 km below the limit
3)Expect to be flashed at if:
You look nervous behind the wheel
Your car looks like it belongs in a scrapyard
You think you own the fast lane
4)Expect to be given a free parking spot in a VIP area if:
You're female
You drive a sports car with an AD plate
You look like you're gonna tip heavily
Habby driving!

hahahaha. So true.
Can't forget when I rented an echo last time I was at home. I forgot I was in an echo but they constantly reminded me of it. :)
LOL @ HL&H :P
Most of what you say is so true. Personally, I give way to local GUYS because they always give me way...lol. I also give way to old people and I do NOT give way to arrogant people or people who try to cut you off at the end of the lane. We all love to believe we're not racist and oh-so-kind on the roads. It's easy to judge others but when you've been driving on these roads for more than four years, you'll find yourself comfortably setting down in one of the stereotypes you just listed :)
Love it!
Especially the VIP parking to sports cars with AD tags. That's what's up. :)
You drive a sports car with an AD plate
cheers to AD plates :D
*hot lemon & honey you know what, sometimes it doesn't matter what car you drive. My female friend rented an Echo but she was so pretty I can assure you everyone either gave way to her or followed her ;). Ladies can drive whichever car they want without prejudice, as long as they drive well. It's the nervous looking drivers that invite trouble!
*md Same here..! I agree with you, there IS prejudice and even racism on the roads. P.S. I stay away from those speeding BMWs (90s models) lol. Have you noticed they always cross from lane to lane with a blank look on their face? Weird...
*uae_rebel & *ADinamorato AD plates: road-users without one hate/envy them or are scared of them, and those greedy parking lot attendants love 'em. ;)
All my mates have AD plates.
true..so true..
but the part about getting a free VIP parking cos u;re a female.. mm.. i dont agree.. nowadays ... if you have money.. u get ur way
disagree...females get a lot of preference here!
