Global Village Dubai

I was lucky enough to be able to drag a few energetic friends along to the Global Village Dubai that takes place every winter.

From experience, I know to take warm clothing along, to prepare me for a few hours in this desert wonderland that can get quite chilly in the evening.

Prepare to go on an empty stomach, as long as you intend to go on the numerous rides that make up Global Village: otherwise, you can stroll around the area, taking in the amazing atmosphere which comprises national pavillions; family entertainment; and live cooking stations from all over the world.

One of the pavillions that displayed a dance routine at the time of my visit was that of Afghanistan: I was completely awestruck by the Afghan dance: the rhythm of the drums; the circle of Afghan dancers (who appeared to be members of the public), and the unique expression of dance of what is a large community in Dubai.

Global Village is a fantastic display of international culture, presenting a great insight into many countries' traditions - a fun wonderland right in the heart of Dubai.

What takes your fancy at Global Village Dubai?

global village is always fun.. I really never went to it after 2002 though, its too crowded for my liking, but still, nice to see the different people and flavors of the world in one place

I'm going to be visiting again in March...will this still be going on? From your post it sounds like this happens only during the winter months.

*ammaro.com - there's something nice about a huge crowded space in an open area...esp. in Dubai, where crowds gather in enclosed spaces such as malls, which makes things a little clausterophobic for my liking. Additionally, GV is fun, so that adds to the pleasure.

*renee, hi again! I have linked to the GV website in the first line - according to the website, it runs til March 1st.

*ammaro.com, it always helps if another is doing the parking ;-)

And have you seen those cute rickshaws that can take you from the parking lot to the site? hehe.

*yasir, I have never seen anything like Global Village before...I only wish the German pavillion was more prominent (don't seem to even recall seeing one this year)...Germany's funfairs are uebercool too, but entirely German! :)

Thx for your visit.

Thanks! I don't know how I missed the link. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll miss it since I'm not back until late March.
