BMs vs...

I have never liked BMWs. If I were a 30-something aged man with restricted taste, I might like one.

BMW is the alternative of Mercedes.

Mercedes is the all-time car for all ages and both sexes.

Recently, I learned that BMW has some kind of "sports car" function. As in, it's called M5 or M6 or something. Yes, the M version travels fast. Yet, when you're in it, you remember it's not got the body of a typical German/Italian sports car. It's long, and not suave, and this shape confirms your thoughts it's really a "saloon" - the BM is not shaped as the Italian roarer, nor the authentic German manoeuvrer.

The glorious BM: put it on super-silver-rims and the screaming sound of a Porsche, and I'd prefer das-lovely Mercedes, anyday.

Holy moly, you don't like an M3 or an M5 i*...? Guess you ain't going to like the Audi S4, S6 or the RS4 eh!

You are like my dad - he prefers Mercedez over BMW.

However, I am a BMW guy, but only as far as the X5 and Z4 are concerned. I don't dig the other makes of BMW.

I am actually contemplating getting myself the X5 2007 in November. The monthly installments are coming around 5000 AED + 12K insurance for 13 months I hear.

I really love that beast and I really do think I should get myself the X5, but I just know it my dad will HATE on me for it.

I know once I have a family, I might not get the chance to live big so I might just give myself a "treat" for now!

I wish I could get a Cayenne for myself, but that is TOTALLY out of my budget. Well, maybe the X5 is a tad too expensive for me, too, but I just like that car too much!

Too many "too's" there :P

Yeah, I would go for Merc as well if I couldn't get anything nice like Mazerati.

Where I come from, both Merc's and Beemers have bad 'noveau riche' connotations, except the S-class Merc.

But I can understand the brute Jihadist appeal of an X5 to Al-rep.

Maserati is something else altogether. Especially the new four door saloon.

I love reading your comments about me :P

lol i have this theory that ppl are either BMW or Merc fans..
personally I'm Merc all the way if I had to choose.. however I have to admit that BMW is a well-made car but the main reason I will never buy one is because I don't like the average BMW driver.. he's exactly like you mentioned.. 30 something with restricted taste.

Is it me, or do I feel that Al-R is the new Balushi but with impeccable English :)

*rosh, wot on earth is m3/m5. I only know the "M" symbol; I look for it when I see an BMW on the road ;)

I *disliked* Audi a lot...for many reasons. For some reason, I've come to like it, but I can't see myself owning one...much respect to those who have one, though, remembering you are one. A4 or something, right? After you wrote you have one, I looked out for what one looks like, and I quite fancied the look...

*al republican, thanks. You're saying I'm old-fashioned? :P

Sorry, did I say in this post that BM sucks? If I didn't already say it, it is NOT ahem ahem the shiniest of shiny cars :)

Each to their own. I've just never liked the "kind" of person to prefer a BMW.

It's just branding at the end of the day. Perhaps we can't classify people (& their choices) into brands, or can we?

X5 - I test drove one and for the 4wd it's meant to be, it felt tiny. I was diappointed.

The other BM's I test drove seemed to be some kind of alternative to the Merc by the sound and feel of it, and how it felt overall. Spesh when slamming on the accelator ;)

Cayenne...pointless when it comes to Porsche. Cruiser best as an all-round 4wd, or Nissan for the desert.

*shlemazl, I wouldn't classify Merc in the same league as Maserati. The two are quite different, only that Merc is one price level down to Maserati. As far as I know, you can't really compare Maserati to Merc, even though price-wise, Merc is one notch down, and in those terms, it could be considered a comparison.

*nick, I haven't driven the Maserati before, don't know what it's like, but I imagine it's quite Italian? :)

Hey, what's with the politics when it comes to BMW's? Wallah, you need a holiday...but don't be gone too long...! :)

*buj, yes, I also think it's "either bmw or merc". Unfortunately, the stereotype of bmw drivers is far more "prominent" than anyone who could drive a merc. Merc drivers are less prone to stereotyping. Thank goodness for that. Perhaps a reason why I like the car, though honestly, the Merc seems better than a BMW. Don't know about the prices, but aren't Mercs higher than BMWs? Says something about the Merc preferers, perhaps. Step on it on a super-Merc, and it's far more enjoyable than a BMW!!!

Hey Buj, where did Balushi go? I didn't really read many of his posts; he suddenly disappeared at the same time I started blogging. Shame.

Bloggers go through phases, some of them disappear, some reapear, some take very long breaks...and some like nick the flick are about to start a blog :)

Hurry, hurry, nick! Come back from your break quickly!! :)

I almost forgot until I saw that Nissan Sunny swerving madly through traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, with a Pakistan flag tied across its windscreen....

Happy Independence Day!

Bonjour madame, you would turn a bm into a db like in the fairy tales without regretting it ever?

Nick!

I saw the same car on the Shaykh Zayed Road, too! Man, I was probably REALLY close to you!

*me reaches for his AK-47* :P
