Post-races post 2008
Back to non-nice mode, as per popular request, I would like to point out how much fun the Dubai World Cup was this year...not! Didn't have as much fun this year as the last couple. Got there late because of traffic. When we asked some people on duty at the blocked road entrances to the racecourse vicinity why we were not allowed to go right in, we were met with shoulder shrugs and a couple of incomprehensible mumbles. Great. We had friends accompanying us from abroad, and do-gooder that I am, trying to promote Dubai, when presented with the question "So...(would you leave your $$$ job overseas) when are you moving to Dubai?" I wished I had some bodyguards to protect my little ears from the verbal backlash I had to endure, and through no fault of my own!
Being forced to walk 20 mins to the main entrance when you've spent thousands to come to Dubai especially for the races and don't happen to have a Burj Al Arab chauffeur driven Rolls to take you there is out of order. My designer-label clad friends from overseas were not too happy. Thousands of people at the only 2 gates to the racecourse even at 7pm.
And, this year, taxis were not officially available upon exit. We had 'luxury coaches' to take us out of the desert and into the city, and those standing in the aisles had nothing to lean on, unlike what the upcoming Dubai Metro will offer...those swinging things on the ceiling that you can hold onto while involuntarily being swayed around.
I think the highlight of the night is not that America's top-rated horse won, but the fact that the football results were announced towards the end of the night. I heard "Scunthorpe". Quite a different review to my last Post-Races post
It was a really fun night and I would recommend it for next year. Camping outside the night before might be a good idea: after all, it's the desert.

yeah! now you talkin hahaha :)
Scunthorpe eh? Didn't anyone shout out Dagenham? :) Saaoo, I guess, it's sorta hit rock bottom this year eh?
Am sorry to hear i*... cannot imagine the "shock & awe* your friends must have had to go thru.
*sigh*!
Sorta explains it all :)
lol rosh...i know northerners won't like this post but hey it's all underground...i have a good heart...if you search down south lol...
thanks for the link, I couldn't find anything appropriate to link to but your link is perfect.
Is Dagenham near Rotherham coz I have no idea...
Rosh, I thought you were being sarcastic about my pals but seriously I don't think it's good when we invite pals here from abroad for the world's richest horserace and they get treated like scum. Pay as you go doesn't even count here. I am sad my friends now probably won't move here because their first impressions are their last :(
Thanks for your comment and for the link.
I*maginate,
Is that you in the picture, with the bath sponge on?
But can you tell me what exactly the point is of dressing up like sluts and other flight attendants in order to queue for three hours and then get legless in a tent before queueing three hours for a taxi.
Sometimes I really don't 'get it', especially the Brits in Dubai.
nick...nope it's not me in the pic. I actually look good and have taste - you might, one day, meet someone like that ;-)
Exactly what I think - most people there are common but there's the bubble lounge and the after-parties which are most fun. The trolly-dollies have their place in the public enclosure, swigging beer and jigging to tunes played by northern DJs...after they queue up for a bath sponge competition lol
Wasn't being sarcastic about your friends. I'd be shocked and awed (for all the wrong reasons).
Dagenham is where Europe's largest car plant - the Ford motor works and jetty was located.
Thanks and ya are welcome.
Oh sorry, I forgot for a moment you are VIP (very important princess).
And what's this about Noothn DJs?!! My favourite companion in the morn is 'Catboy at breakfast' on 92! Wotch it lass.
Dagenham is famous for 3 things: the dogs (as in racing), the Ford plant & the chav skanks!
How about me you and all of your friends go out :P
*real nick mate why the f would I listen to the radio when I have my whole CD collection in my car? At the mo, am listening to Craig David on repeat...forgot the song name...oh yah, rendezvous. I sing it pretty well, too. Anyone know any record producers here?
*jayne...if I look at a map, are the chavic cities especially marked loooool....ooh dog races, I didn't know that was the location, though I've seen it on tv. Sounds fun. We should have some in the UAE! Without the alcohol and gambling, of course............
*dotsson. What's the point of going out when we can stay in?
Jayne, Dagenham - Are you sure? I used to go to Walthamstow for the hounds, and the 'mini tote'. And a pint of the black stuff. Fab!
It was then that I considered applying for British citizenship.
But they didn't want me. Only islamist orphans with autism are welcome these days.
My, Jayne, you must be getting on a bit... There was indeed a racing track in Dagenham but it seemed to have closed in 1965. Maybe that's why they moved to:
Walthamstow
I*maginate,
Radio is different. Catboy and Geordiebird make me smile at 7:30am. I switch to CD when the commericials come. They suck.
yup! blenty of chav skanks!
I like the way you think. In is better than out ;)
ok watever y'all
only black stuff is diet coke which I can do...and guiness, which is more nick's thang...
i*maginate: 2 seconds of your time. visit my blog now. Pls
GN picks up your post Mabrooks!
Thanks rosh dearo ;-)
All that anger about Scunthorpe when it's GN that picked up only on the last two paragraphs containing that now infamous phrase "I heard Scunthorpe" hehe!
Am thinking of making a song out of it. A Bollywood dance...!!! I like Hritik Roshan - he's well fit!
Thanks for your support - I was surprised the topic became an issue, even after apologising and clarifying the context in which the sentence was used...and know you're not one to get involved in sensitive topics but I think you're always fair and wise, and I respect your opinions.
Have a safe trip!
Nick, I am old mate.............right now I feel friggin ancient :-)
I can remember my dad going through to Dagenham donkeys years ago & he used to talk about 'the dogs', as he had greyhounds & whippets when he was a young 'un. I actually didn't know the track wasn't there anymore. The less I know/remember about England, the better.

*jayne lol "The less I know/remember about England, the better."
Whoaaaah you don't wanna be offending keefieboy!
Hey why don't we have the world's richest dog race? We got horses, boats and camels, I say bring on the dogs!
jayne, I was in AD today and was thinking of ya... :)
you don't sound so happy with the fabulous like in Dubai as you used to be.
