Heartbreak holiday

I could write about how my superstar holiday went; how those shopping trips kept me awake, and how my little horsey loves me to death.

Those lunchtime hot-chocolates, the strolls down Sloane St, and the salt beef sandwiches @ Selfriges.

No: I have better things to do than to boast about the cream that filled my baked potatoes between musicals in Covent Garden.

Did I forget: strawberries & cream from M & S while breaking between Selfriges & Harrod's. The weather needs to be nice in order to gulp those strawberries down before guzzling those oysters in Knightsbridge.

Step into Harvey Nichols and the first stop is MAC. Ask for everything you need, and take everything you want. Next, stop at the accessories section where all things gold and glitzy take your fancy. The pearl-glazed headband, the vanilla-scented bubble-bath. Everything you want in all shapes and scents is here, for your liking.

Swan around the shop until you feel a pang of hunger and decide shopping needs a break and your tummy needs attention. Fifth floor, naturally. Hopefully more than hot chocolate and green leaves.

If you feel like a meal, head down to the King's Road: Picasso's is the place to be for real food. Order a tuna/mayo sandwich. It comes with fries, for you carbo junkies. And for you health-freaks, yes, it's on brown. And yes, this is a special spot for a Sunday afternoon. You never know who you might see :)

After a scoff-session, you can carry on down West-end and continue your shopping.

Selfriges, Oxford St., and M & S. What more is there to say?

I would say that you are a bloody London tourist.

I used to hate these people when I lived in London. Me struggling to get to work or meetings and wolfing down a BLT sarnie from Pret and you guys getting in my bloody way skimpering down Oxford St. with your Manolos and your Luis Vuitton bags going "Uh Ah This is soooo last year" at every bloody shopwindow.

It's you guys and DOLLS who are the root of the tube misery, too, blocking the way at the turnstiles rummaging in oversized white leather handbags for your three day pass whilst real people have to queue up behind waiting to slam their oyster cards on the reader like real people are meant to do.

And don't mention f***ng Kings Road. A Sloane Ranger you are!

Scoff! With capital S.

I miss London.

I was in London (and Amsterdam) last week too. I sometimes have to go to Knightsbridge for work, but apart from that, it's not my kind of area. Usually I just arrive at Paddington and walk East, sometimes on the canal, as far as Hackney. Then it's probably time to start walking back. London has the same problem as Dubai - too many shops ;) But with care, they can all be avoided.
Lots of good pubs though, holding out (in some cases) against the all pervasive club & wine-bar rot that sets in wherever it can get a hold.

Might be going myself in a few months' time :)

How old are you honestly?

paraglider,
I know a connoisseur of the Public House when I see one and you are spot on there. 'All Bar One' etc. spell the death-knell for the boozer at the corner.

I lost my local, the 'Crocker's Folly' in St.John's Wood to a slick "bistrot" and the great 'Warwick Castle' is under threat as well from people like i*maginate and her green tea sipping ilk.

Shame about the smoking ban, too. Wankers.

That said, even a wine bar, if open, would be welcome here in Ramadan-Qatar! Nowhere else is.

now did you have to go and do that?

Sorry guys for taking so long to respond, got the lazy syndrome at the moment. I hope I can conquer this terrible affliction soon.

Before I start responding to your comments, firstly, I never went on holiday this summer. 2ndly, it was written as a mocking of those who like to blog about all the poncy things they do, thereby acheiving the title of "ponce"; 3rdly, because I would love to have taken a holiday, so decided to write a post as if I had been on one - for fun, and for creative purposes, as one might say :)

And to clarify, I do like doing all the things described, but not in the manner written! And if I did do those things and wrote a post about my holiday, in no certain terms would I be "boasting" about what I did, and I don't think I would actually be writing about a bag collection.

So, *nick, I'll start with you. I guarantee you I share the same views, contrary to what you assume :P If I had the season's bag (big fat one) I would be using it as a defensive weapon to get through the hoards of tourists that make up Oxford Street to get to Bond St tube station ;)

By the way I have this genius idea: do you think the Mayor would implement it? "Make a fast-walking lane on Oxford St"? - I am sure you know what I mean.

LOL you got one thing wrong, big-fat bag carriers rummage past the "gate" so we don't need to do extra work and stick our tickets in that grey machine and get it ourselves - we would never lower ourselves to stand in a Q for heaven's sake.

*paraglider OMG Paddington has no shops apart from the odd Banhams and McDonalds and 2nd hand shops. The canal is cool. Sorry, never heard of Hackney hehe (no offence) - anyway couldn't place it on a tube map. Perhaps south of the river or something.

Pubs in Paddington hehe. Been to some in emergencies, for the *paraglider experience. Loads of ladies with curled hair chatting with guys with grey hair just returned from God knows where for an after-pizza pint.

Kudos to you, you're the original classy pub-dude.

*tst; cool :)

*anon is that a rhetorical Q? MY intro answers it ;)

*nick, All Bar One is for girls in pencil skirts and guys who like guys who don't like girls.

Green tea is for oldies, haven't reached that stage. I like Twinings - anything with a hint of caffeine. Lapsang Souchong is great. You can get it in Dubai. Carrefour, if you'd ever want to sink down to that level.

*ammaro- I never dunnit - 'twas all a fib. But I like doing some of those things but not in the way it's portrayed in this post hehee

*cg -- hmm never tried that in harrods... the only food I've eaten there is oysters and the sugar-free yoghurt drink. I don't hang out in harrod's - ca c'est pour les touristes ;)

2nd note to you: that was a pretty positive comment coming from you :) delights my tastebuds hehe

Thx to you all. Keep the big bags away from tourists!

I plan way in advance. I was going before I even got back from the previous vacation.
I cannot function without a dose of flying fever couple of times a year.

EMARAT JABAL SHAMMAR, I LOVE YOUR CAPS and thank you for visiting.

Hmmm I think people and cake would be more suited to you since it's about male biyaatches. You might prefer this one from time to time, though, depending on your royal mood.

I didn't make it to London, wish I could though!

*Buj, should I trademark the idea? Anyway a fast lane were indeed to be made on Oxford St it would take years for the planning permission. By that time we would have our own mini-helicopters powered by I-pods!

I* i was there 2 days ago,, and i tell u they need a bloody fast track.. it's so annoying and ppl are so slow.. i use Wigmore st as my fast-track, and pass by the Wigmore Hall to pick up a programme, always :)
