Do you like activities?

On the subject of weekends in the UAE, talk centred on what one can do in various emirates, when the weather is hot, and otherwise.

Scuba-diving, off-roading, mountaineering, and the likes, so this tourism professional professed.

Many people do these, and I do not.

I simply like to sit in a chauffeur-driven car and survey the desert: that is my preferred landscape; my preferred leisure-time. I need no "activities" to fuel my desire for this formidable, wavy desert landscape: "barren", as those with limited vision may describe.

Just looking and admiring is my activity when it comes to the outdoors. Exercise your eyes, and you will find.

I'm with and without you on this one. I have no wish to roar up and down the dunes in 4*4, still less in an overgrown go-kart, and I can happily watch the sea without hankering for a jet-ski or sail-board. But when it comes to the chauffeur driven car, yes, that's a good enough way of getting somewhere but, once there, I've got to get out and walk. From inside, you can experience the desert with your eyes alone. As a walker, the relationship is complete, balanced, natural and healthy.

You & I can see the beauty of a desert. It’s never “barren” - I see much depth in those sand dunes. There is this intangible melancholic peace of being with the sand, the sunset - and at times with friends over a BBQ in the desert on a winter evening - priceless

For everything else there is the city of Dubai :)
