Money talk
A Princess' life is not always that easy, you know.
And now, the time has come to talk about money - one of those things that is not usually the norm to discuss, but here goes...
Let's talk about money and clients. When you're at the supermarket check-out and all your purchases have been scanned, is it an option to tell the cashier to pack your goods, and you'll come back later to pay?
If not, then why do clients in the business world expect you to deliver goods without paying? And why is it that the majority defer on the last payment?
Excuses such as "my client hasn't paid yet"; "our bank has made some kind of mistake" and "we've all been out of the office" are becoming more pathetic by the day.
Money is a tricky business, and clients are full of tricks when it comes to money - not all, but some.

oh yeah thats so true!! check this out.. we had a client who hadn't paid in over 60 days... well actually the account was overlooked.. and when our office called for payment, the receptionist said the accounts payable person is on vacation. Surely someone must be able to prepare the payment.. then she says the whole accounts department has gone to philipines... hahahaha!! now thats original.. the finance dept has official closed down for who knows how long!!!!

OK, so your answer is to say sweetly "that's OK, I'm sure there must be someone in your legal department then"
My policy is to start being a pest as soon as I've issued the invoice - its a pain but it usually works! I have been known to hand over the invoice and say nicely: "that's OK, I can just wait" ! That always gives them a fright!Eventually they realise that not paying me is more of a pain for them! It's all a matter of training :-)
Most of the times payments become overdue because of lousy logistic departments in companies. Without a proper ERP or logistical cycle, people will end up forgetting to pay their dues.
*clayfuture - lol! When a client needs to pay, they will make sure their entire finance dept comes back from wherever they are, even if they're on the moon, to pay if they need to. Funny example you cite there!
*rose in dubai, fab tricks you got there! Sometimes whatever you say doesn't work, especially after the goods have been delivered. The costs involved in legal action are not worth it if the amounts are small, and I say preventative action is much better, though not possible in all industries.
*al rep, it's one thing dealing with companies who've got loads of bureaucracy, in which case it should almost be expected to receive late payments. However, when clients are constantly reminded to pay up and it's clearly possible to issue payment, it's the excuses that clients give away that show they really have no intention in paying. And in my books, deliberately withholding payment is quite wrong.
The only people who talk about money are the people who don't have it.

I know that darlin - it's why i specifically mentioned "money and clients".
Money talks...
but chocolate sings! :P
I guess it was just a matter of time before you people got offended about this .
al rep you are soooo sweet lol!!
Most of the times people don't pay is because they think they can get away with it. They also have this idea that it will improve their business but in truth I always charge slow payers more and I can't be the only one!
All I can say is Roar... I hate money.
True; its funny how something that costs 5 Dhs needs to be paid for immediately, but something that costs 5 million can be delayed. Doesn't make sense.
What also doesn't make sense is that people who are broke and NEED loans can't get them, but the people who are overly rich and have too much money keep getting offered loans all the time.
Yep, money is a big screw-up. Just another wacky issue from our beautiful capitalistic world.
