In the eye of the observer
Here is a round-up of my week's observations:
- Rents are showing no signs of stabilising
- Apparently food prices are now going up?
- Dining al fresco is still possible (yipee!), though not long to go before we're confined indoors
- I no longer recognise Abu Dhabi Corniche. It's heavily under construction.
- Traffic into and out of the Emirates Hills area is now at all hours - hardly a luxury
- Dubai Police are conducting more random checks on drivers, making our roads a little safer
- Antibiotics are bad, bad, bad - we need more alternative health practitioners in Dubai
- Carrefour has introduced pay-as-you-go trolleys - keep a dirham handy!
- Both Etisalat & Du still occasionally show 'network error' messages on Internet connections
- I need to Fly Emirates - soon!

hiya :)
I also need to fly Emirates soon, oops that Etihad for me :)
No. 8 is good - it suggests UAE is keeping the coin for a bit longer. Qatar is all paper. Handing over a coin to cross the Creek by abra is one of life's small pleasures. The paper would get wet!
Changes afoot at Paranormal - drop by when you get a chance?
Hmmm not enticing at all, to say the least?
i fly free thanks to my family wasta :)
*icanbuyhappiness - hiya! :)
*elle, hi ;-) ... Click on the fly emirates link, and it takes you to... MAURITIUS! Damn I need a holiday, frankly I couldn't care which airline takes me there. Haven't yet flown Etihad but I heard business class is full of ladyboys.
*paraglider - didn't realise paper currency's the norm in Q!
Of course I'm aware there are new posts on your blog! Am still digesting their meanings lol!
*rosh - what is not enticing? Didn't get ya.
*mars, you lucky chick! If I could fly for free, I would live on a plane! I lurve flying...and heights.
Too much you are make Gulf News!
Take me as your second friend :)
Great post, I hope you enjoy whatever vacation you this summer!
I know you've commented on my blog in the past and I haven't been as kind.
But I just wrote a post linking to your blog, I hope you get a chance to see it.
Keep up the great blog...I enjoy it greatly!!
free fly to emirates:)
*alexander; dotsson - responded on your blogs
*the blog sheikh - a silent admirer! likewise. I do read your blog but choose not to get embroiled in political discussions online, though I find your blog awesome and innovative. I read each of your posts via rss ;-) Thanks for your support, I am truly honoured.
*dubai - do I know you? haha!
Tried to load your webpage - the main bit is taking ages, so will try tomorrow. Thanks for the visit - look forward to getting to your page tomorrow. Hope you got some nice secrets to share!
Our rent only went up the 'allowed' 7% which was a relief, but friends of ours have just moved into another apartment & are having to cough up 100,000 per year from their own pockets, as their housing allowance (company) is 'only' 100,000p.a. Try getting a decent 3 bed apartment in Abu Dhabi for less than 200 grand a year! Food prices are going up, but as yet, I don't think it's too hectic. AD Corniche isn't too bad, but the worst is yet to come! Did you know al Salaam street is going to be closed for a couple of years, in order to build the all-new-bigger-better-than-Dubai-Metro? It's going out to Marina Mall, so anticipate even more construction :-) Police in AD are as much use as a handbrake on a canoe, unless you're involved in an accident or driving a Maybach at 200kmph. I agree with the alternative health practitioners, am not surprised at paying for supermarket trolleys, think both Itisatwat & Duh need serious overhauls & I'm in desperate need of a friggin holiday, but think I'll head for Bali on Etihad. As yet, haven't seen a fudgepecker in Biz class :-)
End of comment......whew!
*jayne babe - I think you're a great brand ambassador(ess) for AD coz everytime I go there, I now think of you. You're located around clock tower or something? hehe.
Rents? Yeah, problem everywhere. Al Ain is the way to go! Seriously, if I needed to commute to DXB and had a choice of Shj and Al Ain, I'd move to Al Ain. Why? Bec. it takes 1 hour to get from AA to DXB with no traffic. Better than standstill traffic bet. Shj and Dxb. I don't know how Shj residents survive.
-didn't know Salam St. is going to be closed - wasn't aware. If Sh Z Rd were closed in Dxb, at least there'd be some 'tertiary' roads - how does one get to a building located on Salam St. without getting totally lost if the road were closed? Thx for the info, I'd better start planning from now!
-I like UAE Police - nev. had a prob. with them ;-)
-Alternative health practitioners - we need world-class professionals here, who know what they're talking about
-Hey - Bali sounds cool! Shame about the negative publicity from a couple of years ago. I've read they have great 'spa' holidays.
-"Itisatwat & Duh" - I luv the diff. abbreviations bloggers come up with to represent some of my fave companies!
*network error - beware!!!* ;-)
*fudgepecker - lol! Need to learn your local lingo! Babe ... my next hol might be to C.Town... ahhh!! Am thinking it over...
x
Hiya!
We have to say - why fly Emirates when you've Etihad?
Far more sizzle than sausage!
Flowers.
Why fly the E & the E, when you've got the AA - Air Arabia! Simple, elegant, affordable, pretty and homely - wot more could a man ask for!
:)
Can I please use this opportunity to tell all the Jumeirah Jane cows (or rather Emirates Hills Jane cows) who drive like snails in the fast lane during busy hours of the morning in their Range Rover full of kid, to $%#@#$ &%%! Or go back home, or I dunno, hire a decent driver with a smaller car, or at least use the freaking slow lane???
Half of the morning traffic is due to them!
I would move to Al Ain at the drop of my bandana, or Fujairah even! Al Ain = Green & Fuj = Mountains, both stunning in their own way & both have wide open spaces, which I really appreciate.
As for heading to CT for a holiday - you GO hon!! It's a beautiful city. Emirates are flying direct now, which is also a bonus. We're thinkin' about doing a tour on Harleys in November.....if Hubs can get leave that is. Still waiting for a date when we can get to Bali......*sigh*
BTW, I'm located near Madzad shopping centre. If ever you wanna pop in for a cuppa, send me an email :-)
