Tattoos & the power of the media
I've never been one to like or accept tattoos without blinking an eye when I see one. It conjurs up all sorts of thoughts...
Of late, I've discovered tattoos on people I've known (professionally) for some time. My reaction when their tattoos were open for viewing? Unexpected!
I even commented on them, and we had a laugh exchanging views on tattoos. All in all, I don't know what to think. Beckham's now got his whole arms done, and this has been well-publicised in the media. Does this make tattooing more fashionable; more acceptable? Obviously. Beckham earns millions through brand endorsement, and when he makes such a fashion statement, this automatically makes the tattoo trend more 'acceptable'.
And so, we are back to basics. Tattoos are in, and those who don't accept them are out! Cool, eh?!

I was 18 when I got my first tattoo & well into my late 30's when I had my sons name added. Last year at 49, I had another one done. I've never regretted them, but made the decision when getting the 1st one done, that it would be in a place where it could be covered up if necessary & the same applied with the others I had. I'm thinking about getting another one done, but not here (in the UAE) so will wait until I go home.
When I first saw the photos of my brother, bloody plastered in tattoos, I thought (still do) that he looked like a criminal, someone straight out of prison. Altho they've all been done professionally, in my opinion, he looks a mess. Having said that, where he lives, one has to have the 'image' & his is to be "well 'ard".
I reckon much depends on people's perception. Like you've said, there are people at your work that you never knew had tattoos.
It's an interesting topic/subject & I could rattle on for ages, but don't want to bore you to tears! Good post hon :-)
Tatoos look lovely until, like me, you start to become old. And then they blur and stretch and start to look ill-defined and amateurish. And then you end up looking like an old person with blodges of blue and vague colour on your arms. And everyone goes 'Yeewwww'.
Which is what always stopped me ever considering getting one!!!! :)
I got one too but its always covered up. Its for me not to show off to the world :)
they are yuk
they are yuk,
would you wear a shirt all your life?
I*maginate,
this is uncanny - Just yesterday I thought about doing a post about how much I dislike tatoos.
I don't give a shit about Beckham and what he does. Tatoos before Beckham were for working class yobs and criminals. Now they identify working class yobs, criminals and celebrity obsessed mainstream fashion victims.
Double Yuck.
i was never much of a tatoo person really. im not going to argue with people who have the occasional flower or bird or chinese letter tatooed here or there, but i mean, sigh, some of the people really overdo it and it starts looking pretty freaky. i dont see the point. your skin was never meant to have ink under it.
and say one day you decide to change your mind about it? well, cant do that.
I have one (from my wilder days) and would like to get another, but my husband feels STRONGLY against it. I like tats and i like piercings. (Lot wrong with me, yes yes we know)
Last summer when we were in Thailand in a hissy fit and in an attempt to wear the "cojones", in the marriage I even entered a tat parlour. My 11 year old was like. Gee! get one mom. Whats baba gonna do once you have gotten it. But you know I love that man, and I just could not hurt him.
Sigh! For the record I LOVE TATS.
